Findus is one of Europe’s most important pea producers, and since the 1940s has invested major resources in Sweden in research and development aimed at producing farmed peas of consistently high quality.
In 1961 Findus started a unique method of production known as ‘LISA’ – Low Impact Sustainable Agriculture. This not only reduces pressure on the environment from agriculture, it minimizes the weaknesses and risks which can be found in other growing systems - both organic and conventional. All the peas we produce now benefit from the LISA system.
Peas are a delicate crop and have to be harvested on precisely the right day to ensure the right sweetness/tenderness and the very best flavour. Thanks to our careful pre-harvest analysis, we can ensure that crops are harvested at exactly the right time.
For quality, we grade our peas into three sizes before they are blanched and chilled in cold water. Small and large peas undergo colour sorting and spotted peas are rejected. Medium peas are first carefully graded based on sweetness/specific weight in a saltwater-solution test, and then undergo colour sorting. Our complete quality-classification process guarantees that we supply quality peas according to precise standards to suit all the variables required from different uses.
On average Findus peas are frozen within two hours of harvest – those from the most remote fields within three hours.
Such is Findus’s detailed experience and understanding of pea production that you can be sure all the peas we supply not only taste great and are of consistently excellent quality, but are produced using an agricultural method that cares for the environment long term.
